NEW WESTMINSTER, BC – The Pattullo Bridge will be closed northbound one night and fully closed the next night this week, due to ongoing construction work on the new stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge.

To ensure public safety, the bridge will be closed northbound into New Westminster on Thursday, December 18 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. This will be followed by a full closure in both directions on Friday, December 19 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

These closures are needed to install support structures for three new traffic signs. The overhead directional signs will be installed on both sides of King George Boulevard in Surrey. Heavy equipment, including cranes and construction vehicles, will be blocking traffic lanes on the existing bridge. Electrical work will also require a shutdown of the current bridge’s seismic monitoring system.

Access for emergency vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists will be maintained during both nights of work.

Drivers affected by the bridge closures are encouraged to take the Port Mann or Alex Fraser bridges as alternatives. N19 NightBus trips will be rerouted over the Alex Fraser and Queensborough bridges between New Westminster and Scott Road stations.

There will be signage to indicate all traffic pattern changes and traffic control personnel will be on-site. Rerouted drivers and transit users should plan for up to 30 minutes of additional travel time. Customers are encouraged to check Transit Alerts and use Trip Planner for more information.
